Research Fields of Nakajima, Saito Group

Japanese version is here
Our group focuses mainly on images, including Image Recognition, Image Analysis and Image Synthesis etc.

When we see an image, we can derive many sensations and information from the image. For instance, we may be able to recognize the place in the image, or the person in it, or read and understand the words in the picture. One of the major research in our group is to provide the computer with the level of recognition and understanding like a human being. In these reserches, by extracting the special characteristics from a given image, computers are able to segment, classify and reconize some objects. Moreover, various characteristics of the image can be analyzed.

The development of the personal computer, the Internet and multimedia increases the importance of image synthesis by computers and transmission of images through networks. In the current development, our reserch has forcused on creation of virtual objects by CG, Computer Animation, Virtual Human, CG Image Compression and the creation of natural phenomenon and living organisms through the computer. Recently, many systems which can generate virtual space are proposed so that our proposed methods are applied for these systems. A seamless interaction method between real world and virtual world is very important theme. Therefore, we are tring to propose an interface in which users are not aware of operating devices in virtual space.

Next, the major research topics in our group are listed as follows;
